Round ball for the small
GRAND BLANC — Girl basketball players in grades 3-6 are invited to a set of seven clinics at the Grand Blanc High School gymnasium starting today and running until Oct. 23 from 6-7:30 p.m.
Cost is $35 and includes a jersey, coaching, instruction and training from the Lady Bobcats and their coach, Deb Wilson.
The upcoming sessions will consist of two skill nights and five game nights, with 6-8 person teams competing, coached by Grand Blanc High players.
The program’s objective is to get kids interested in basketball early in the school year while learning the game and having fun.

Autumn co-ed athletics opportunities
GRAND BLANC — A fall lacrosse league is now available through the Department of Parks and Recreation for boys and girls in grades 4-8.
Players need gloves and mouth guard but some sticks and helmets will be available. All six games play at Bicentennial Park on Thursdays Sept. 11- Oct. 18. Cost is $75 for residents, $87 for non-residents.

GENESEE COUNTY — The VIEW Newspapers is seeking sports and news interns for the current and upcoming semesters at both our Davison and Lapeer offices.
Hours are flexible and candidates will work under an editor’s supervision.
Positions are unpaid but do provide excellent preparation for a career in journalism, as well as educational credits based on your commitment.
Individuals should be currently enrolled in either high school or college and have a quality work ethic.

FLINT — The 14th annual Michigan Adaptive Golf Pro-Am 18 hole Par 3 scramble will be hosted by the Kearsley Lake Golf Course, 4266 E. Pierson Rd., on Sept. 12 beginning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $40 and includes lunch and prizes after the event and a continental breakfast. Season pass holders pay $20. On-ice scheduling change announced
FLINT — Because of an event conflict at Perani Arena, the Flint Generals minor league hockey team has changed its March 17 home contest against Bloomington to Dec. 7 at 4 p.m.
The Generals also announced Sept. 4 that they’ll be holding auditions for team mascot General Rally on Sept. 16 from 10 a.m.- noon, and then again from 5-7 p.m. at Perani.
Interested applicants need a valid driver’s license and will be required to perform a short skit in costume. The job is not full-time but those selected will be needed for game nights and community appearances.
National anthem auditions take the stage Sept. 17 from 3-5 p.m. at Perani and each applicant will be required to sing the anthem.

Hockey affiliation agreement renewed
FLINT — The International Hockey League’s Flint Generals announced Sept. 2 that they will once again remain associated with the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings. As such, Generals Martin Ondrej and Kyle Deck will be given spots in the 2008-08 main Red Wings training camp in Traverse City. Last year these positions were occupied by Nick Tuzzolino and Brett Westgarth.
