Cross-Ice registration open
LAPEER — The Lapeer County Hockey Association announces open registration for the 8 & Under Cross-Ice Program. The program focuses on teaching kids hockey fundamentals and features a reduced ice surface, small groups, close adult instruction, more repetition in one ice session and sharply reduced costs. Practices and games are played on a smaller rink, which increases puck possession and touches for every player, increased scoring chances, promotes and encourages skating agility, and dramatically increases each child’s involvement in the game. It is one of only a half-dozen such programs in Michigan. Participants must be born between 2000 and 2003 and registered for USAH membership online at usahockey.com. The season will consist of approximately 40 sheets of ice. Registration is $50 with two additional payments of $75 on Oct. 1 and Dec. 1. The first skate is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Polar Palace, 3301 Davison Rd., Lapeer. A limited number of equipment starter kits for cross-ice hockey are on sale at Polar Palace. — L.P.

In our Crim coverage last week, we referred to the signature 10- mile race as a 10K race. The Crim Festival of races includes 5K run and walk, 8K, the 10-mile and several kids’ races each year. — L.P.
