Grand Blanc native competes in world championships
GRAND BLANC — Jerry Hendrix II of Grand Blanc finished first in the sparring and third in the forms at the World Tang Soo Do bi-annual World Championship tournament in Orlando, Florida. Hendrix competed against students from other countries in the 14-16 intermediate division. — E.H.

GRAND BLANC — Kortni Elsworth of Goodrich received First Team All-State honors in Div. 2 softball. In soccer, Kristen Steffes of Grand Blanc received Second-Team All-State honors in Div. 1. Teammate Alyssa Wombwell received honorable mention. In Div. 3, Jolynn Zirnhelt of Goodrich received Third-Team All-State honors.
Indoor field at Perani
FLINT — The Field at Perani Arena is a multi-sport complex that features artificial grass, climate control and spectator seating. The Field offers youth and adult sports leagues and fall leagues are forming now. The leagues include soccer, flag football, lacrosse, baseball, softball and drop-in soccer. Top 50 junior tour
MIDLAND — In the U-15 division of the Top 50 Jr. Tour, Tyler Garris of Lapeer took home medalist honors shooting a 76. Also in the top 20 were Jeff Hodge of Burton, Joseph Richards of Goodrich, Ben Ruff of Grand Blanc and J.R. Wojciechowski of Lapeer. The tournament was played July 16 at the Midland Country Club. — E.H.
Fall baseball offered
ROCHESTER — The Rochester fall baseball league has teams from all over metro Detroit and Oakland and Macomb counties playing in the league, and hopes to draw players from Lapeer and Genesee Counties. There is a $650 entry fee for the league and a $25 umpire fee that must be paid before each game. Games are played in Rochester or at your own field by request, which will give a $100 discount on the entry fee.
The junior program is broken down into two divisions with Div. I as 10 and under and Div. II as 13-and-under. Games start Aug. 16 and end Sept. 27. There will be 12 games in all with doubleheaders played every weekend. Details: 248-656-8308 or rdieters5580@ wideopenwest.com. — E.H.
