Phantoms play final home game
[Jun. 5, 2008] FLINT — According to the Encarta World English dictionary, a Phantom is defined as something that can be seen or heard or whose presence can be felt, but that is not physically present. Coincidentally, the Oxford English Dictionary defines a Raptor quite simply as a bird of prey.
These descriptions seemed quite appropriate when applied to the Flint Phantoms and the Rock River Raptors
of the Continental Indoor Football Leauge, considering Flint is now 14th in the league in offense and 13th in defense in the 15-team Continental Indoor Football League, while Rock River is third offensively and sixth defensively.

[Mar. 27, 2008] KALAMAZOO — The Flint Phantoms are getting off to a slow and worrisome start if they hope to take the league by storm, as they predicted when the new team was announced in December. The team took another one on the chin, literally, when the Kalamazoo Xplosion handed them a 62-8 rout at Kalamazoo.

[Mar. 13, 2008] FLINT — If it’s not one thing, it’s ten.
That’s how Flint Phantom’s coach Keith Tunstall must have felt Sunday when a series of transportation and communication glitches left his players and fans idly watching a maintenance crew install the turf at Perani Arena when they should have been kicking off their season. The delay angered some, while others left for a short time only to return for the home opener for Flint’s new expansion football team.

[Jan. 17, 2008] KALAMZOO — As we embark upon the winter sports season and leave the fall menu for next year’s schedule, one dynamic duo that doesn’t mind looking ahead to the spring sports season is 2005 Goodrich graduate Kirk Elsworth and 2005 Grand Blanc graduate Rob Johnson, both of whom play football for Western Michigan University.

[Nov. 8, 2007] GRAND BLANC — Current Grand Blanc resident Carey Lee thought his athletic career was done and gone after graduating from Bentley High School in 1997. About a decade later, Lee was quick to jump when opportunity arose in the form of the Flint Fury of the Mid Continental Football League, which he joined in 2006 and recently completed his second season with.

Bobcats, Martians go out on high notesBobcats, Martians go out on high notes
[Oct. 25, 2007] GRAND BLANC — After finishing winless in league play in what could be their final season in the Big Nine, the Bobcats looked to end their five-game losing streak against Belleville last Friday, winning 40-13.
The Big Nine schools, now down to five, are looking for new conferences for the 2008-09 season. Flint Kearsley will join the Flint Metro League next season, leaving Grand Blanc, Davison, Flushing, Carman-Ainsworth and Flint Powers to find new competition and quite possibly, separate leagues. Powers has been looking at several Catholic school conferences, while the others have looked to Capital Cities and Oakland Activities Conferences after the Metro turned them down this past spring.
