[Jun. 19, 2008] OAKLAND COUNTY — After playing soccer and manning the student council for all four of her years at Goodrich, 2006 graduate Natalie Cook recently received her associate’s degree after earning a two-year scholarship while competing for the Oakland Community College cross county team.

[Apr. 24, 2008] OAKLAND COUNTY — After two seasons of cross country competition for Oakland Community College, current sophomore and 2006 Goodrich High School graduate Natalie Cook may find her time in athletics running out, but not only will she leave quite a legacy, the pastures she’s moving on to couldn’t be greener,

[Dec. 13, 2007] KALAMAZOO — At Western Michigan University, 2004 Grand Blanc High School graduate Michelle Wittbrodt joined both the cross country and track and field programs as a walk on her freshman year. Now, as a senior who’s sitting on the precipice of her final competitive seasons, Wittbrodt has helped anchor two separate Div. 1 athletic squads without a single cent in scholarship support.

After a solid year of performances, Goodrich seems to be back on track and geared up for their regional against Powers and other Blue Water Area Conference foes.

[Sep. 6, 2007] FLINT — Grand Blanc was at the mercy of Mother Nature last Wednesday when their meet at the Cavalier Classic at Carman-Ainsworth was cancelled. Coach Carlos Benton fielded a partial team to try and get other people running time. The temperatures reached 90 degrees and the boys’ ran first, but potentially dangerous weather with eerie dark clouds put a stop to the girls’ race.

On your mark, get set...On your mark, get set...
[Aug. 23, 2007] GENESSEE COUNTY — With numerous issues affecting the sporting landscape due to the change of seasons, one constant is the co-ed nature of running sports.
“We accept everybody and anybody who comes in to the team and show them team spirit,” said Grand Blanc coach Carlos Benton.
Both cross country and track put forth multiple units and for the first time, boys’ and girls’ basketball will run concurrently in the winter season. With that group of kids looking for a fall sport, cross country just may be a great conditioning choice for them.
