[Jun. 28, 2007] NATIONWIDE — A $3,000 vet and home repair bill to stitch up a male Boxer’s slashed chest and to replace the plate glass window he leapt through to try to escape the fireworks that sent him into a frenzy. A horse fatally injured after impaling itself on its pasture fence trying to escape another nearby fireworks display. A nearly $5,000 home repair bill to replace a linoleum kitchen floor, basement door and stairwell carpeting that a Golden Retriever destroyed after trying to flee another subdivision fireworks display.
The Fourth of July and the increase of illegal fireworks displays in neighborhoods and rural areas have brought about similar stories of pet injuries.
