Are you old enough?
STATEWIDE — A new age limit bill for youth boaters and watercraft users was signed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm in early July. The minimum age to operate personal watercraft was raised from 14 to 16 years of age and was named the Ashleigh Iserman law after 17-year-old Iserman, killed in a boating accident on Walled Lake in 2004. Iserman did not have a boating safety certificate when she crashed a jet ski. The new law does not go into effect until Oct. 1, 2011. The exception to the law is for any current 14- or 15-year-old possessing a boating safety certificate, as long as they are accompanied by and adult or driving within 100 feet of an adult in the water.

Attention hunters: Just one, please
STATEWIDE — If you purchased more than one antlerless deer license application, you cannot have multiple applications included in the drawing. Hunters who have applied for more than one antlerless deer license should return to the license agent and have all but one application voided. Those who applied online should follow online procedures to void all but one application. The application deadline is Aug. 15.
