[Mar. 27, 2008] I’m stepping away from the local sports scene this week, while our area spring track teams run hurdles in the halls and the boys’ golf and girls’ tennis teams practice their short game and swing analysis in the gym.

It's time to play!

[Mar. 6, 2008] Last week, Atherton High School played host to a sportsmanship summit that welcomed student athletes, school officials and Michigan High School Athletic Association Director Jack Roberts.

[Feb. 28, 2008] The Michigan High School Athletic Association and its member schools are contemplating yet another move to make the current high school athletic calendars more manageable — and not such a burden on everyone.

One step forward, 10 back
[Feb. 21, 2008] It’s been a litmus test of sorts as girls’ and boys’ high school basketball teams played in the same season for the first time in the state. Officiating was a main concern, mainly that there would not be enough officials to call all the games.

[Feb. 14, 2008] While some area high school girls’ basketball titles have been decided, it’s do-or-die time for others as district action is set to tip off Feb. 18.
Almont earned its first outright Blue Water Area crown since 1956, and Goodrich won the Genesee Area Conference-Red. However, the two squads are on different district paths this season after Goodrich defeated the Raiders last year. At first glance, Almont has a pretty easy trip through their district, with Capac, Imlay City and Armada in the mix, all teams the Raiders have beaten this season. However, an unknown Pontiac Notre Dame Prep could be the spoiler.

[Feb. 7, 2008] High school student-athletes have seen many changes in their classrooms and on the playing fields this year. Yet another new change could send many to the bench if one school district succeeds in its bid to raise the minimum grade point required to be eligible to participate in sports.

[Jan. 24, 2008] That’s right tennis fans, the first week of the Australian Open is over, with several upstarts sending top seeds home early.

[Jan. 3, 2008] As we sit and ponder the last of the eggnog and watch the embers burn out on 2007, it’s a good time for some introspection on just how naughty or nice we were in the grand scheme of things this past year.

[Dec. 20, 2007] As the realities of the weather become more and more alarming, as they annually do, I thought it might be time to take a look at some of what’s right and good on the sporting landscape, as quality people reach out to aid the less fortunate, both locally and beyond.

[Dec. 13, 2007] If you are among the many area dog owners that have been turned into super sleuths over the past couple of months, you can stop looking for answers.

[Dec. 6, 2007] It seems from our recent mail bag letters and anonymous voicemails left at the VIEW office that some parents and fans have forgotten what high school sports are supposed to be about: learning, camaraderie, sportsmanship and playing the game of choice in any given season.

[Nov. 29, 2007] For the first time in the state, girls and boys high school basketball squads will play in the same season, thanks in part to a nasty and lengthy court battle that raged its way all the way to the Supreme Court in a 10-year ping pong match of sorts.

[Nov. 23, 2007] The conversation went something like this last Wednesday morning:
“Well, they’re both okay, but it looks like a murder happened in the barn.”
