Dance team members land on national squad
GOODRICH — At the National Dance Alliance (NDA) Camp earlier this summer, seven members of the Goodrich Dance Team received nominations for the organization’s All-American squad, which in the past has performed at half-time of national events like the Hula Bowl.
The four Goodrich students who made the squad were seniors Brittani Lemonds and Faith Madden, along with junior Brandi Bates and sophomore Felicia Darrin. The other three who received nominations were junior Alyssa Beauchamp and sophomores Rachel Hull and Amanda Lindsey.
“They’ve amazed me. This is my first full year,” said Goodrich coach Pam Neff. “We chose the team in March and they’ve made leaps and bounds since then. They’re a great group.”
The team itself received a rating of superior across the board at the NDA event, which is the highest possible compliment a squad can receive. It also earned them the right to compete in the organization’s national competition later this year, a trip they may or may not make depending on cost and other particulars.
“I came from a large Class A school so coming to a smaller Class B school has been weird,” Neff said. “The girls have just been awesome. I hope to qualify for states this year. Last year I held them back from it to build confidence. The teams that usually get bids are the ones they really want to compete.” — M.S.
