Woods to play in Buick Open
GRAND BLANC —
Tiger Woods, the 2006 defending Buick Open champ, answered the biggest question on everyone’s mind at a press conference at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club Monday.
“I’m really looking forward to coming back. I know everyone thinks the tournament is kind of up in the air for me, but I intend on playing the tournament,” he said via satellite from Florida. “We’re very excited about our impending family extension here shortly, but I intend to be there, intend to play, intend on defending.”
Woods and wife, Elin, are expecting their first child in July. Buick Open officials were equally pleased to welcome him back to the 49th anniversary of the Open.
“We’re very excited to continue our partnership with the world’s No. 1 golfer, Tiger Woods. As I think most of you know and will agree, he’s really a class act,” said Larry Peck tournament chairman and Buick golf marketing manager. “He now has 57 career victories, fifth on the PGA Tour’s all-time list.”
Early commitments from John Daly, Jim Furyk, Charles Howell III, John Rollins, Brett Wetterich, Lucas Glover, Trevor Immelman, Bubba Watson and former BO champs, Woody Austin, Rocco Mediate, Tom Pernice, Jr. and Billy Mayfair were confirmed. — L.P.
