Times are changing
for Patriots
FLINT TOWNSHIP — The Genesee County Patriots, a AAA level semi professional football team that plays in the North American Football League, has endured an offseason filled with numerous changes. The most recent of which came March 13 when the organization officially announced they’d moved their headquarters to G- 3490, Miller Rd., in the Ross Plaza.
The new facility is intended to not only increase the team’s profile on a county-wide basis, but also contains areas for athletes to review film and weight train.
March 9 represented a new chapter for several previous team members as four former Patriots made their debut for the Flint Phantoms of the Continental Indoor Football League.
For Clint Galvas and Nate Eller, both of whom play running back and linebacker for Flint, it was their initial voyage into the arena game while Steven Levels and Bo Moore have experience with teams like the Flint Flames of the IFL, as well as the Bismark Rough Riders and Sioux City Storm of the NIFL.
Genesee County will also have a new skipper this season as it was announced last month that William Donahue will return as the Patriots’ head coach. Donahue was at the helm for the 2005 season after serving as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2004. His coaching career spans five decades and his experiences include working with Joe Paterno at Penn State. He has also been a head coach at the high school level.
The rest of the coaches will be named later this month, with several former staff members scheduled to interview for the open positions.
The other Patriots’ announcement from March 13 was that Anna Dutcher would be joining the Executive Staff as Assistant Director of Operations. Dutcher has a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from Grand Valley State University and will contribute to the advertising department, as well as assist with game day operations, group sales and team travel assistance. — M.S.
