GRAND BLANC — Grand Blanc High School’s beloved mascot, “Paws”, recently received a makeover. At Monday’s basketball banquet, teacher Charlie Carmody officially retired the old mascot uniform and presented junior Eddie Zaliagiris with a new $1,700 costume. Zaliagiris will continue his duties as “Paws” for the duration of the school year and also next year.
The new costume resulted from funds donated by four different GBHS support groups: Basketball Boosters, Cheer Boosters, Football Boosters and Student Activities Fund. The new, state-of-the-art uniform features cooling fans on the inside designed to keep Zaliagiris “maintain his cool-cat persona while working the crowd.”
The first mascot uniform was worn by John Manutes. “Paws” appears at all varsity football and basketball games, in addition to special requested appearances. — N.B.
