Michigan Lacrosse Day

GRAND BLANC — Girls in grades 5-12 are invited to a special Girls’ Lacrosse Day in Michigan Sept. 14 from 1-4 p.m. at three locations.

Lansing, Battle Creek/Kalamazoo and Grand Blanc/Flint are the three sites selected by U.S. Lacrosse Michigan that is putting on the free day. Creasey Bicentennial Park in Grand Blanc is the closest location for readers in our area, at 1505 E. Grand Blanc Rd.

During the special day, girls can see the game, learn how to play it and will have the opportunity to pick up free lacrosse-related items. Players that bring a friend will be eligible for a raffle, plus the first 50 to register at each location get a free T-shirt and lacrosse stick. Loads of free stuff, college coaches and players and all the information players need to get started in lacrosse also will be offered.

Girls will learn basic lacrosse skills and will be taught by college and high school players and coaches. Details about how to start a local team, team start-up grant information and local vendors selling lacrosse equipment also will be at each site.

The event is sponsored by Reebok, Detroit Lacrosse Company, Harrow, Soccer Zone-Portage and Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation in an effort to increase the knowledge about and to get girls interested in playing lacrosse. — L.P.
