Athletics leads to education

MIDLAND — In an effort to enhance her own life through academics while furthering her athletic career, 2007 Grand Blanc grad Pam Wilson recently began her freshman season for Northwood University’s women’s basketball team.
“We are expecting big things from Pam this season,” said coach Jeff Curtis. “As of today, she is our team’s leading scorer and we hope that continues for the weeks to come.”
The Timberwolves began the season Nov. 16, beating St. Cloud State, 84-59, before losing the next day to Minnesota State, 81-74. In the two games combined, Wilson scored 20 points, was 9-for-24 from the floor and made 2-of-7 three-pointers.
“Pam’s strengths are her offensive mindset and skill level. She’s a good athlete and can do a little bit of everything on the basketball floor,” Curtis said. “Pam is fun to be around and always has a smile on her face.”
On Nov. 20 Wilson began making a name for herself by scoring 25 points with six rebounds, five steals and three assists in a 106-53 home win over Rochester. In her next game, Wilson was held to four points on 2-for-8 shooting, including 0-for-5 from 3-point range, as Northwood defeated Tiffin, 69-66, on Nov. 26.
Last season Northwood had nine wins, which made for a total of 28 victories in Curtis’s three-year tenure.
“Pam is majoring in entertainment and sports management. She is on a full athletic scholarship and in her free time she likes to be with family and friends,” said Curtis. “Pam could improve her lateral quickness and her defensive footwork.”
The Timberwolves are 3-1 overall. They next play Dec. 1 agaisnt Ferris state at home. — M.S.
