Admirals hijacked by Outlawz

FLINT — In an effort to pull itself back to .500 despite losing three of its past four games, the Michigan Admirals of the United States Football Alliance hosted the Ohio Outlawz last Sunday, losing, 34-18.

For Michigan, the team got off to a slow start defensively, allowing Ohio to double up the score and end the quarter with a 12-6 lead. In the second, the Admirals’ defense continued to struggle, allowing Ohio to leap out to an 8-0 advantage for the quarter and send the game into halftime with the Outlawz up, 20-6.

The third quarter was probably Michigan’s most efficient of the contest, as they held Ohio to a half-dozen points, while scoring just as many themselves. Now down, 26-12, entering the game’s final stanza, instead of mounting a comeback, Michigan was outscored 8-6 in the quarter to end up losing by 16.

The Admirals’ offense was led by running back Andre Broach with 102 rushing yards and wide receiver Jared Pfeiffer made five grabs. On the other side of the equation, the Michigan defense was anchored by linebacker Walt Jackson and defensive back Steve Jones with seven stops each.
Michigan is now 2-4 overall. They next play Saturday when they host the Ada Dark Knights.

Last Saturday, the Genesee County Patriots of the North American Football League traveled to Ontario to face the London Silverbacks, losing, 47-0. The defeat dropped the Patriots to 0-2 overall, 0-2 Central Lakes Division. Michigan next takes the field this Saturday against the Indiana Warriors at Flint’s 11,000-seat Atwood Stadium.

The Flint Fury of the Mid-Continental Football League played at the Detroit Seminoles last Saturday, and were shut out, 51-0. The Fury is now 0-2 overall and next play the Central Kentucky Studs this Saturday in Lexington. — M.S.
