SALINE — Grand Blanc competed in the Hornet Invitational last Friday and Saturday, taking fourth place in the eight-team field.
In game one, the Lady Bobcats faced Ann Arbor Pioneer, winning 6-4. Offensively, Grand Blanc was led by Carly Miller and Sarah Stark with two goals each and Sarah Rogers and Kayla Cornell both scored once. In goal, Allison Reilly played the first three periods, stopping 10 of the 14 shots she faced, followed by Jessie McDougall, who went 4-4 on save attempts in the games final quarter.
In the tournament’s second contest, the Lady Bobcats faced Milford, losing 11-8. Rachel Bartels led the offense with a hat trick, Miller scored twice and Reilly, Rogers and Ashley Joyner had one goal each. In net, Alaina Moreno-Kohler allowed six goals on a dozen shots in the first three quarters and Christine Robbins had a save while allowing two goals in the games final period.
Grand Blanc squared off with Dexter in the tourney’s third contest, losing 9-3. Miller had two goals and Kayla Cornell scored once to lead the offense. Moreno-Kohler and Robbins added four saves each.
The Lady Bobcats traveled to face Troy Tuesday, losing 11-6. Topping the charts for Grand Blanc was Miller with four goals, followed by Bartels and Ashley Joyner with one goal each. Between the pipes, Moreno-Kohler led a strong defensive effort with seven saves.
Last Wednesday the Lady Bobcats played at Saline, losing 11-2. The difference in the game came in the second quarter, as Saline broke a 1-1 tie by scoring four goals to go into halftime with a 5-2, lead. The second half didn’t get any better for Grand Blanc, as they were down 7-2 after the third period and were outscored in the fourth, 4-0.
For the offense, Bartels and Reilly each scored once. In goal, Moreno-Kohler led the team in saves with nine and Reilly chipped in with three.
Grand Blanc is 10-14 overall. They next play the combined squad from Birmingham Groves/Seaholm today and Wednesday they’ll conclude the regular season against Troy Athens.
