BIRMINGHAM — Since beginning the season with a 12-4 exhibition win over Okemos “B” on Aug. 18, followed by three consecutive pre-season defeats to Milford, Huron “B” and East Kentwood the next day, the Bobcats’ boys’ water polo team has been making waves that have been felt in every corner of the state.

As the regular season comes to an end, let’s take a look at what happened at last week’s district tournament, as well as what could happen at this weekend’s regionals:

East Region, North and South Districts
The Bobcats faced quite a formidable line-up of opponents when they traveled to Macomb County last Sat- urday, losing the first game of their postseason at Birmingham Seaholm, 12-10.

“It was a very exciting game and we had many opportunities to take over, but we just could not capitalize,” said head coach Dan Command.

Grand Blanc then faced Troy for third place in the East Region, North District, winning, 9-1.
“The first game of the year we lost to Troy and the second game we only won by one goal, so this was a great performance by the guys,” Command said.

The Bobcats next take the pool tomorrow in the East Region Championships against host Ann Arbor Huron at 7:45 p.m., with the winner slated to face either Okemos or Birmingham Groves the next day at 11:45 a.m.

Grand Blanc’s leaders this season include Brett Dryer, whose 2008 highlights include notching a hat trick in the Bobcats’ 11-10 victory over Troy on Sept. 25. Victor George, Mike Hicks and Tim Sippell have also made strong contributions for the Bobcats this year, including a Sept. 18, 12-11 win over Walled Lake, where each hit the back of the net three times.

Grand Blanc is 8-3 overall, 4-0 district.

Other scores
Grand Blanc 12, Walled Lake 8
10-14-08
Goals: Michael Hicks 4, Aaron Ducharme 3, Tim Sippell 3, Brett Dryer 1, Luke Ford 1
