GRAND BLANC— The Bobcats JV and varsity teams were on their “A” games Tuesday, defeating Troy Athens easily. The JV won 12-3 with first-year player Nick Bailey taking his first start at goalie.
Tyler Cronkright and Gino Scarpelli each had four goals while Joe Nicholas, Alex Grimmer, Jordan Millwood and Matt Risik each had one to complete the team effort.
“Both teams played well and are progressing with each game, yet we still have a lot to learn and to improve on,” said coach Dan Command.
The varsity also won handily with an impressive 15-4 effort. Victor George and Tyler Benmark scored three goals apiece to lead all scoring. Aaron DuCharme and Tim Sippell each scored twice while Brett Dryer, Joe Reeder, Nick Martin, Anthony Marsalla and Luke Ford each nabbed a goal.
“Anthony’s behind-the-back goal was amazing and definitely the highlight of the game,” said Command.
“We started off slow after a four-day weekend but quickly picked it up and got control of the game,” said Command. “It was a good all-around team effort and good morale-boosting game.” The varsity is now 1-1 and will take on Troy next Thursday.
The Bobcats played Dexter last Thursday in an exhibition game with both JV and varsity coming away with a loss. The JV team struggled before falling, 14-4, with Tyler Cronkright scoring three goals and Will Sanford one.
The varsity was without one of its top players, Tyler Benmark, and struggled to a 15-7 loss. Mike Hicks scored four goals, Tim Sippell two and Aaron Ducharme had one.
