Youth basketball travels for clinic
GRAND BLANC — The undefeated Grand Blanc fifth grade girls’ Jet League “A” Team participated in the University of Michigan’s basketball camp Oct. 21.
Athletes were able to meet this year’s U-M women’s basketball team and visit its locker room while being introduced to new drills and skill sharpening exercises.
“There is a great chemistry between these girls and this is probably the best team work I’ve ever seen,” said Jet coach Ferdinand Martinez. “They’re a promising team.”
Weekday basketball league
GRAND BLANC — Registration is open on a first-come, first-serve basis for the Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation Department 2007-08 men’s adult basketball league.
Tip-off will begin between 6:30-8:30 p.m. at either the East or West middle school campus. Games are Monday and Wednesday evenings, with Monday set aside for recreational players and Wednesday for more competitive athletes.
Games start mid-November and end in early March. Cost is $150 deposit, with the balance of $350 due by Dec. 1.

ANN ARBOR — The U-M men’s basketball team recently opened up ticket sales for the 2007-08 season. Season tickets start at $202 for the entire season, the Big Ten ticket package is $126 and the weekend pack costs $70.
New head coach John Beilein and his staff also will be running a basketball coaching clinic at Crisler Arena Nov. 3, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. and concluding around 1:30 p.m. with a final question session. Athletes cannot attend due to NCAA rules. Cost is $40.

FLINT — United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 1C will be teaming up with the Flint Generals to give union members $1 off Saturday home games, with the difference to be donated to a new charity every week beginning Nov. 3.
According to UAW Region 1C spokesperson Steve Dawes, the union has initiated the program because Region 1C director, Duane Zuchschwerdt, believes in giving back to the communities that its auto workers reside and work in. The Nov. 3 proceeds will go to the Michigan Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, with other charities selected each week.

FLINT — The U-M vs. MSU football game will be broadcast on multiple 20-foot screens at the Longway Planetarium at the Flint Cultural Center, 1310 E. Kearsley St., on Nov. 3.
Admission is free, giveaways and children’s activities will be available and WTRX 1330 AM will be broadcasting live. A tailgate party will also be available for $10 per person, which includes prizes, lunch and beverages.
Seating is first-come, first-served. Tickets are required and are available seven days a week from noon to 5 p.m. at the Planetarium.

Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference schools were held at the Holiday Inn in Kalamazoo Oct. 30, Oakland Activities Association schools can go to Berkley High School Nov. 2 and Greater Thumb Conference institutions can attend at Unionville-Sebewaing High School Nov. 9.
