The best is yet to come

The end of May and first of June brings about the hallowed passage of all high school seniors — graduation. All year long (and perhaps even before), seniors start developing a bad case of ‘senioritis’ in anticipation of finally saying goodbye to their lockers, teachers, cafeteria food and friends. For some, the final days are bittersweet and for others, those days cannot come fast enough.

When I graduated from high school, I left a semester early to start community college. Boy, was I glad to be out of there. Don’t get me wrong ... I enjoyed my high school years, but I was ready for the bigger and better things that come after tossing the hat into the air. I was ready to dive into my studies and break away from all of the stereotypes of being a “typical high school kid” to become a “typical college kid.” I was ready to be seen in the world as an adult and to finally be treated as an adult. I was ready to make my mark on the world.

To all the graduating seniors, I’d like to offer just a little bit of advice. Go out and make your mark on the world, but cherish your high school memories, and stay in contact with those friends who shared your high school experience.

Those memories are priceless and will be with you forever.

But above all, remember that the best is yet to come.
