Good Karma

I believe in Karma. Yes, there is the malicious kind, where we say that someone who kicks dogs and steps on butterflies will get theirs, but that’s not what I’m referring to.

And not the John Lennon Instant Karma variety, or the kind where you’re hoping for a good return, or you do a deed to feel better about yourself. The kind of deed that people do simply because it seemed the right thing, or the thoughtful thing, without any thought of recompense.

I guess more of the variety typified by poet Edwin Markham: “There is a destiny that makes us brothers, none goes his way alone. All that we send into the lives of others comes back into our own.”

So, when we see people willing to do something benevolent and encouraging for others, we usually try to let people know about it — especially if it can benefit kids or a non-profit group.

The Goodrich Music Boosters are looking for donations of used instruments. Anyone who wishes to help these budding Mozarts can donate an instrument (tax deductible, which you can then donate to some other group) by contacting Goodrich middle school teacher Chris Hall at 810-591-4210, or high school teacher Aaron Orkisz at 810-591-2251. Thanks, Mark, for bringing it to my attention.

On the more bizarre side, Grand Blanc resident Bonnie Williamson has an antique Maytag wringer/washer (more than 50 years old) in her garage that she would like to donate to a non-profit group, like a historical society, or a school or civic group to auction off to raise funds. Mrs. Williamson got the antique from a friend and doesn’t want to see it in a scrap pile if someone can benefit from it — somehow.

Anyone interested can send an email to jnewell@viewnewspapers.net and I will contact Mrs. Williamson and let her know you’re interested.

Somehow, some way, some day the help you give now will come back to you.
