Supporters come out for Kautman-Jones fundraiser

FLINT — Supporters came out to help Shirley Kautman-Jones, Atlas Township supervisor candidate, raise money to fund her campaign and celebrate the evening’s festivities at the White Horse Tavern in Flint June 26.

Approximately 50 people attended the fundraiser for Kautman-Jones, who faces current Atlas Twp. Supervisor Paul Amman in the August 5 primary election.

Among well-wishers were several individuals currently running for office in Atlas Township, including Mary Koppinger, clerk candidate, Susan Arnold, trustee candidate and Ann Hutchins, treasurer candidate, in addition to friends and family. Former Atlas Twp. Supervisor Rudi Dechner also attended.
Well-wishers enjoyed an evening of food, fun, music and conversation during the event, which raised $850.

“I’m pleased with the turnout,” Kautman-Jones said. “I think it’s great. People from my company came and several business people also came.”

Kautman-Jones says that she plans to host a more family-friendly “old fashioned ice cream social” in the Goodrich area later in July, around the time she hopes to start her door-to-door campaign, knocking on doors to make sure voters are aware of her platform and stance on issues important to the community.
She said that she held the event in Flint, rather than Atlas Township, because the owner of the White Horse Tavern, whom she knows well, offered to host the event at his restaurant.

“It’s very exciting to have Shirley running for office,” said Hutchins. “She has an extensive and successful business background and a vision for Atlas Township’s future. She’s very respected in the community and it’s great to have a choice with this year’s election.”

Kautman-Jones previously served on the Goodrich Area Schools Board of Education and the Atlas Township Planning Commission. She owns and operates a business in the Flint area.
