Popadich moves
to new position
GRAND BLANC
— After 10 years of service as the secretary to the superintendent and board of education, Carol Popadich moved into her new position at Grand Blanc Community Schools as the assistant coordinator of the assessment office.
Popadich, who has been with the district for 17 years, received special recognition for her new post at the Sept. 4 board meeting. “I have really loved the position,” she said. “You guys (the superintendent and board members) are really outstanding and this has just been my pleasure.”
Before aiding the superintendent and board of education, Popadich began her career at Grand Blanc Middle School as a noon-hour supervisor. From there, she moved to the central office and worked for former Supt. Gary Lipe. — N.B.

Optimist Club
seeks members
GRAND BLANC
— The Grand Blanc Optimist Club is seeking new members who want to serve the Grand Blanc community by supporting the area’s youth.
Those interested in participating should join the Optimist Club from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at Little Joe’s Restaurant, 11518 S. Saginaw St. The Optimists will explain what it means to be a member of the club, and discuss the different upcoming events planned to benefit youth in Grand Blanc.

Retired school
personnel meeting
GRAND BLANC TWP
. — The Southeast Genesee Association of Retired School Personnel (SE-GARSP) and Genesee Association of Retired School Personnel (GARSP) hosts its first meeting of the season on Sept. 26.
The luncheon meeting, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Woodfield Golf Club in Grand Blanc Twp., features guest speaker Marie Wilkerson, president of the MARSP. Pre-registration for both the lunch and the meeting is required, but lunch attendance is optional.
SE-GARSP seeks to keep retired school employees informed about benefits, state legislation and lobby efforts, and other items affecting schools and retired staff in Michigan. New members are welcome to attend the luncheon/meeting.

— The Grand Blanc High School Class of 1962 is planning a 45th class reunion on Oct. 13 at the Coyote Preserve Golf Club, 9218 Preserve Dr., in Fenton.

Collecting
household
hazardous waste
GENESEE COUNTY
— Residents can choose between two locations to drop off hazardous waste materials on Oct. 6: Water Service Center, 3310 E. Court St., Flint, and Central Elementary, 600 S. State St., Davison. The sites will be open between 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Acceptable items include old household pesticides, herbicides, solvents, paint thinners, aerosol cans, oil-based paint, motor oil, mercury, batteries, corrosives and old prescriptions. The sites also will accept up to seven car/truck tires that are off the rim (no tractor or semi tires). The tire collection is sponsored through Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission and Keep Genesee County Beautiful.
These sites will not accept explosive or radioactive materials, medical waste, commercial and industrial wastes, and latex paint.
Genesee County holds these collections twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Residents should remember that they should never throw away the above hazardous wastes in their regular trash.

Indian Hill
walk-a-thon
GRAND BLANC
— The community is welcome to join Indian Hill Elementary for the school’s 2nd Annual Walk-a-thon Fundraiser from 9:15-11:30 a.m. Sept. 21 in the Indian Hills subdivision.
Money raised from the two-mile walk goes toward enrichment activities for the school, including field trips, assemblies, and reading and science programs. A Jaguar Jamboree is from 5-7:30 p.m. for Indian Hill families. The jamboree features inflatable jumpers, carnival games, a dunk tank and music from WCRZ 108 FM.
“This has been such a positive change in the way we do fundraising,” said Jennifer Finch, walk-a-thon chairperson. “It’s also a better, healthier alternative to our traditional catalog sale.”

Blood drives
GENESEE COUNTY
— American Red Cross hosts blood drives throughout Genesee County, Sept. 27-Oct. 11.
From 8 a.m.-1:45 p.m. on Sept. 27, Great Lakes Tech Center, 4100 S. Saginaw St., hosts a drive. On Sept. 28, Flint Donor Center, 1401 S. Grand Traverse, hosts a drive from 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m.
On Oct. 3, Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Rd. in Grand Blanc, hosts a drive from noon-5:45 p.m. Bendle High School, 2294 E. Bristol Rd. in Burton, hosts a drive from 8:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Oct. 5.
Blood donors must be at last 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds and be in good health. Supplies of O-positive and O-negative, the red cell that is the universal donor, have been regularly less than a day’s supply.
