Lock-up fundraiser benefits the MDA
GRAND BLANC TWP. — Several local people are “locked up” and need help from the community to be set free.
Brick Street Bar & Grille, 1223 E. Grand Blanc Rd., is the site for the Grand Blanc Executive Telethon Lock-Up, beginning at noon Aug. 14. The fundraiser benefits the Mid-Eastern, MI Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
Individuals will be “incarcerated” and a deputy will take prisoners to the MDA’s “Maximum-Appreciation Facility” at Brick Street where they will be sentenced and held for one hour.
To be released, prisoners need to raise bail set at $3,000 and can ask their friends to donate money to make bail. The four “bail-out” options are by cash, check, credit card or pledge. All donations are 100 percent tax deductible.
For more information, call the MDA chapter at 810-866-9004. — N.B.

Goodrich still has openings for out-of-county students
GOODRICH — Goodrich Area Schools still has four openings available for students who live outside Genesee County but in intermediate school districts contiguous to the Genesee Intermediate School District.
This includes students in Livingston, Shiawassee, Saginaw, Tuscola, Lapeer or Oakland counties.
The Board of Education voted for the first time at its April 23 meeting to allow applications under the schools of choice program from outside Genesee County for the 2007-08 school year.
Applications are available in the superintendent’s office, 8029 S. Gale Rd., for students in grades K-12 and must be returned to the administrative offices no later than 4 p.m. Aug. 10.
If more than four applications are submitted, the district will hold a lottery on Aug. 13. Parents will be notified whether their student was accepted or not by the end of the day Aug. 13.
