Evergreen Cemetery prepares expansion
GRAND BLANC
— The Grand Blanc Evergreen Cemetery Association has begun developing the remaining 20 acres of the cemetery on the corner of Center and Hill roads.
Although a completion date has not been determined, the cemetery association has begun installing drains and planting grass seed to increase its burial plot availability. “Your lots are sold and so you have to start thinking of expansion,” said Alice Potter, cemetery association secretary.
Potter said some rumors have circulated about the development. “Some people think we’re putting a sub[division] in. We’re not.” She said the association decided to wait to develop the remaining 20 acres until the need for more burial space became crucial.
The cemetery has been around since the 1880s and more than 20,000 burial plots exist on the 60 acres of developed land. The cemetery was so named because of the many evergreen pine trees that dot its landscape. — K.S.
