Girl Scout recognition
GOODRICH — The Girl Scouts of Fair Winds Council recently recognized several local girls for their completion of the “Family of God” or “I Live My Faith” medals.
To complete the medal, scouts had to complete several activities and keep a journal of what they learned regarding their faith.
Those honored are from five different troops. From Troop 1389 was Lindsay McCarty, Rhiana Tailor and Kristen Diamond. Elaina McClanahan and Kirsten Mullane from Troop 3037 were also recognized, along with Jessica Taylor from Troop 1336; India Tailor from Troop 3032; and Katelyn Mullane from Troop 3192. — A.S.
City Council meeting rescheduled

Public safety forum
GRAND BLANC — Republican candidate for state representative Paul Scott will hold a Public Safety forum July 17 at the Grand Mall.
In addition to Scott, speakers include Miles Gadola, Chief Stamm and other area officials. Admission is free and catering is provided by Luca’s Chophouse. — A.S.
Students raise funds for local Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
GRAND BLANC TWP. — Grand Blanc East Middle School’s Student Council hosted a walkathon May 23 to raise funds to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The event netted approximately $1,500 in donations.
Students from the school sought out pledges for the fundraising drive. Each student receiving more than $10 in pledges was given the opportunity to ditch their 6th and 7th hour classes to participate in the walkathon. Prizes for free Slurpees, compliments of a nearby 7-11 convenience store, were distributed every five minutes.
Student Council has raised more than $5,000 to benefit charities during this past school year, said Sara Bledsoe, student council advisor at Grand Blanc East Middle School. — S.S.
Kautman-Jones kicks off campaign at the White Horse
FLINT — Local business owner Shirley Kautman-Jones recently announced her campaign for Atlas Township Supervisor. She will hold a kick-off fundraiser at the White Horse Tavern on W. Court St. 6-8 p.m. June 26.
Kautman-Jones is opposing incumbent Paul Amman on the Republican ticket. She has served on the planning commission as well as the Goodrich School Board for several years. She also has owned and operated her own gourmet food manufacturing corporation for more than twenty years.

Disabled veterans fundraiser
GRAND BLANC TWP. — PD’s Pub and State Rep. candidate James Swenor will sponsor a fundraiser for disabled veterans 5-8 p.m. June 19 at PD’s Pub, G-5153 Fenton Rd.
Along with hot dogs, chips and potato salad, the event also features a party on the patio. Participants are encouraged to bring their motorcycles out. Cost is a $5 donation with all proceeds benefiting Disabled American Veterans. — N.B.
Accelerate 08 Auction
GRAND BLANC — Mount Hope Church hosts the Accelerate 08 Auction on 2 p.m. June 22.
The church is raising money for Students Living a Mission to help encourage young people to make wise choices. Items up for bid include a wardrobe makeover and tailored suit, a Nintendo Wii, website design and one year hosting, a Hummer for a weekend, a freezer full of food, washer and dryer, golf for four at Oakhurst Golf and Country Club, complete teeth whitening with Invisilign Evaluation and more.

Local aid to Indiana
INDIANA — The American Red Cross Genesee-Lapeer Chapter recently sent six volunteers to assist with the tornados in Indiana.
The volunteers from this area will help with mass feeding and have taken an Emergency Response Vehicle to help with the task. The chapter plans to send more volunteers to the floods in Iowa and Wisconsin as soon as possible.
