State Bank honors
March co-op student
GRAND BLANC — The State Bank of Grand Blanc recently named Grand Blanc High School senior Rachel Crowl as March’s Co-op Student of the Month. The State Bank also named Bob Evans on Hill Road as the business partner of the month.
Crowl is a hostess and server at the restaurant and her supervisor said “It is a pleasure to work with Rachel, she is always pleasant and smiling.” She plans to pursue a career in business management and professional cooking. — N.B.
Barone holding fundraiser
FLINT — Joe Barone, a candidate for judge in Michigan’s 35th District Court, will hold a fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. May 10 in the Taft-Taylor Room of the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre, 5353 Gateway Centre Dr.

Flint Club scholarship renamed after Cross
FLINT — The Flint Club recently renamed its scholarship fund the Dr. Michael Cross Flint Club Service Scholarship, in honor of the late veterinarian.
Cross owned Cross Veterinary Clinic in Grand Blanc, in addition to being the associate dean of the veterinary technology program at Baker College. He also was an active member of the Flint Club. — N.B.
Jazz band
concert planned
GRAND BLANC — A jazz band concert featuring a guest performance by the University of Michigan-Flint jazz ensemble is at 7 p.m. May 23 at Grand Blanc High School-East Campus.

Flint River cleanup
FLINT — The Flint River Watershed Coalition river cleanup in Genesee County is from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. May 10. Gloves, garbage bags, a free T-shirt and lunch will be provided.
Community cleanup locations are River Bank Park — meet at surface parking lot on Saginaw street; Hurley Community Clean-up — meet at Dort Park area south of West Tower entrance near Sixth and Begole; and Carriage Town Historic Neighborhood Association — meet at Durant Dort office building.

GRAND BLANC — From 10 a.m.-noon May 17, the Grand Blanc High School boys’ lacrosse club will collect pop cans to raise money for the club. The boys will be in uniform throughout the community. — K.M.P.
Transition meeting
for incoming freshmen
GRAND BLANC — A meeting for parents of incoming freshmen planning to attend Grand Blanc High School for the fall academic semester of 2008 is 7 p.m. May 15 in the gymnasium of the high school’s West Campus, One Jewett Trail.
“A Partnership for Success,” was created to assist parents and students with the leap from middle school to the high school level.
Topics for discussion include understanding the expectations of high school; supporting your child in his/her freshman year; and learning methods for getting various types of help.
