approves officers
FLINT — Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary recently approved its 2007-09 officers. The slate includes President Edna DeVaughn, Vice President Melva Viltz, Recording Secretary Elizabeth Cavette and Treasurer Helen Johnson.
The Auxiliary works to assist the Salvation Army in all Salvation Army community activities, to initiate special funding projects and to promote and provide volunteerism for projects and programs.

‘Music Matters’ concert in June
GRAND BLANC — Grand Blanc Music will present its first annual “Music Matters” concert on June 15 and 16. The two-day event will benefit children in the community who have an interest in music, but have difficulty paying for instruments or instruction.
The event will showcase the talents of Grand Blanc Music instructors and special guests. Friday night’s show will feature mostly classical pieces, whereas Saturday’s performances will highlight classic-rock/pop.

McGrath YAC
receives Key Champion Award
GRAND BLANC — Youth Advisory Council from McGrath Elementary was chosen from among 21 schools to receive the Key Champion Award from the United Way of Genesee County.
The YAC will coordinate a community project to purchase personal items for an area homeless shelter. They’ll fund their project through a pop bottle and can drive and with raffle proceeds from bird houses made my McGrath students.

students encounter other cultures
GRAND BLANC — Students from Grand Blanc schools attended World Fest 2007 at University of Michigan-Flint on May 15 to increase their awareness of different cultures and countries. The all-day event provided interactive sessions, including a magic show entitled “The Magical World Around Us.”
World Fest is an outreach program of U of M-Flint which extends invitations to all schools in Genesee County to participate in this hands-on learning opportunity. — K.S.

BURTON — Want to save a life? Give blood at the American Red Cross “Race for Life” Blood Drive on May 30 at the Theatre Wing of Courtland Center. The drive runs from noon-7:45 p.m. Donors must have a photo ID or a donor card to participate. The event is sponsored by CARS 108 and TV-12.

GRAND BLANC — Parents of Grand Blanc students are now able to track the eating habits of their children and check their lunch account balances on the district’s new Food Service Management System.
Earlier this week, a letter was sent home with each student’s individualized user ID and password. These may be used at

No burning permits
GRAND BLANC TWP. — The fire department is no longer issuing burning permits for Grand Blanc Township residents. The department resumes issuing burning permits on Oct. 15 this year through April 30, 2008.
The fire department does not issue burning permits to City of Grand Blanc residents at any time of the year. — J.N.
