Brendel students
receive sales award
GRAND BLANC
— Brendel Elementary School received $500 for being one of two national top sellers for Little Caesars Pizza Kit fundraising program in March 2008.
Money raised will be used to help fund the school’s field day. The organization sold 1,364 kits, earning $7,950. With this money, Brendel will purchase a snow cone machine.

Rock n’ rhythm
GRAND BLANC
— A new music enrichment program, Rock N’ Rhythm, is now available at Grand Blanc High School West.
Parents and children sing, learn and play music with Wayne Smoot, a specialist in working with children and music.
The program is open to children ages 2-5 and runs 9:15-10 a.m. Mondays from June 16-July 28. Cost is $49. A program for special-needs students between the ages of 4-12 also is available 10:15-10:45 a.m. Mondays from June 16-July 28. Cost is $35 for Grand Blanc students and $40 for others. Parks and Rec

— Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation have a variety of programs scheduled for summer.
Programs include swimming, tennis, volleyball, aerobics, cheer camp, baseball, basketball, golf, crafts, babysitter’s training course and dance. Special needs programs also are available.

Beach party night
GRAND BLANC
— Indian Hill Elementary is hosting its last gym night 6-9 p.m. May 16.
Activities include basketball relays, limbo, face painting, crafts, cookie decorating, Legos, karaoke and High School Musical 2. Pizza and snacks will be served. Children can also tie-dye shirts for $5 a person.
Cost is $10 per child or $15 for all children in one family. The event is open to children in grades K-5 at Indian Hill. Registration is recommended. To register or to volunteer, call Trina at 810-953-1902. — A.S.

Valley School talent night, open house
FLINT
— The Valley School, 2474 S. Ballenger St., will host its annual student fine arts and talent night 5-9 p.m. May 16.
In combination with this event, the school also will hold an open house for interested families. All are welcome.

GENESEE COUNTY
— Several candidates have filed to run in the August primary for seats in Atlas and Grand Blanc townships.
Atlas trustee incumbents Barry June and Scott Statson will face challenger Norene Newton in the election.
In Grand Blanc Twp., incumbent Micki Hoffman will face Michael Blondell and Karter Landon for the supervisor position.
Clerk Linda Kingston will vie for her seat against Cathy Lane. Current Supervisor Jeff Zittel will face Earl Guzak for the treasurer position. — N.B.
