second in division at robotics nationals
GRAND BLANC — Grand Blanc High School’s rookie robotics team, the EngiNERDS #2337, finished second among 83 teams in the Curie Division at the FIRST Robotics National Competition held last weekend in Atlanta, Ga.
The team also won the Highest Seeded Rookie Award for their division. Team mentors are Clinton Bolinger and Brandi Suder. — N.B.
GB Kiwanis to
hold reverse
raffle fundraiser
GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Kiwanis Club upcoming major fundraiser, the Kiwanis’ Reverse Raffle, will be at 6 p.m. May 6 at the Flint Elks Club, 7177 E. Maple Ave.
Only 300 tickets will be sold for the event. Each $50 ticket includes dinner for two and a chance to win a prize in the raffle. The first ticket drawn wins $50 and every fifth ticket picked will win a prize worth $25.
Every 25th ticket nets a prize worth $50 and the last 15 tickets picked will win prizes valued at more than $50, including meat from Colony Market and tickets to a Detroit Lions game. The 299th ticket winner will win a $500 cash prize and the final ticket winner wins $2,500.

Gail Odom, a member of the FGS and the DAR, will present “A Thriving Family History: Tracing a Person of Color back to the Civil and Revolutionary Wars.”
There will be a “Question Table” available before the meeting to assist people on genealogical problems. Guests from throughout the area are invited to attend and learn more about the Society.

Transition meeting for
incoming freshmen
GRAND BLANC — A meeting for parents of incoming freshmen planning to attend Grand Blanc High School for the fall academic semester of 2008 is 7 p.m. May 15 in the gymnasium of the high school’s West Campus, One Jewett Trail.
The meeting, titled “A Partnership for Success,” is sponsored by Grand Blanc Community Schools. The session is created to assist parents with the leap from middle school (eighth grade) to the high school level (ninth grade).
Topics for discussion include understanding the expectations of high school; supporting your child in his/her freshman year; and learning methods for getting various types of help.
