Brendel student takes third at regional spelling bee
GRAND BLANC — Brendel Elementary fifth-grader Jordyn Tipsword finished in third place during the Genesee County Regional Spelling Bee Feb. 14.
Tipsword misspelled “ferret,” resulting in the third spot. “I was really nervous,” she said. “I think I put an ‘a’ in there somewhere.” She received a medal and a book for her win. — N.B.
Daylight savings time
GRAND BLANC — It’s time to change the clocks again. Daylight savings time is March 9, and residents should set their clocks forward one hour.
Daylight savings time also is a good time for people to check their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and install new batteries. — J.N.
GB seniors score high in math competition
GRAND BLANC — Ten finalists from Grand Blanc High School took part in the Michigan Math Prize Competition Dec. 5.
Among those ten students, seniors Husam Alghanem, Bill Fortin and Joel Hrit finished in the top two percent in the state.

M-15 Corridor
Task Force meeting
ORTONVILLE — An M-15 Corridor Improvement Task Force meeting is at 10 a.m. March 10 at the Brandon Twp. Library, 304 South St.
The agenda includes reports on the M-15/E. Hegel Road traffic signal, a review of crash patterns on M-15, the status of the M-15 draft environmental impact statement, and progress reports on M-15 traffic and operation improvement studies from Oakland and Genesee County officials. — K.S.

GOODRICH — Goodrich Schools offers Reid Elementary’s Developmental Kindergarten program for the 2008-09 school year.
The Developmental Kindergarten program is designed to complement the traditional kindergarten program and is made up of half-day morning and afternoon sections, Monday-Friday, said Reid Elementary Principal Paul Minns.
Each class is staffed by a certified, highly-qualified teacher. Classes will be made up of a ratio of no more than eighteen students to one teacher.
Reid Elementary also hosts a parent information night from 6:30-7:30 p.m. March 19 in the school’s media center.
