Family events
GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Family Service Center is sponsoring several events to help improve family communication and health.
“Communicating with Your Teen” will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. March 22, in the Paradise Room at the Perry Center, 11920 S. Saginaw St. The event is free and open to the public.
“Bully-proofing Yourself, Your Family, Your School and Your Community” is a class for parents of children of all ages. The class will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings April 24-May 29 in the library at Myers Elementary. Childcare will be provided, although children must be potty-trained.
“Grand Blanc Community Schools Kindergarten Roundup and Health Fair” will be from noon-6:30 p.m. May 9 at the Perry Center. Activities at the free event include information on pre-school and latchkey programs, local and county participants in a health fair, district-wide registration, fun activities and teddy bear bus rides every half hour from 1:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Public hearing
ATLAS TWP. — The Atlas Township Board of Trustees has scheduled a Truth in Taxation public hearing for 6:30 p.m. March 19 in the township community room, 7386 S. Gale Rd.
The hearing is an opportunity for the public to ask questions about the township’s 2007 fiscal year budget and various funding allocations. The board will then review and could approve the budget during its regular meeting following the hearing. The township’s fiscal year begins April 1.

Recycle computers
GENESEE COUNTY — Got an old computer to get rid of? Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan and computer manufacturer Dell have partnered to create the Reconnect program.
Goodwill accepts any brand of old, out-dated or broken computers for recycling. The recycling effort’s goal is to help keep computers from ending up in landfills. Contact Goodwill representative Kathy Rometty at 810-762-9960, Ext. 105 to coordinate computer donations. — J.N.
Night of fun
GRAND BLANC TWP. — McGrath Elementary is hosting a Family Fun Night, with shows at 6:45 and 8 p.m. March 23 in the gymnasium.
Admission is $4, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Pizza, popcorn and pop will be available for purchase as well. — P.H.

FLINT — Mott Community College is hosting a public discussion on community educational issues from 6-8 p.m. today (Thursday) in the MCC Regional Technology Auditorium.
The topic of the forum is “The Purpose of Education,” and the objective is to help parents, citizens, teachers, support staff, seniors, elected officials, business and other stakeholders discuss ways for students to succeed in school.

GRAND BLANC — Holy Family Girl Scout Troop #1316 hosts a service project for the Genesee County Humane Society from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, at the Father Bush Parish Center, 110 Bush St.
Troop members will be taking photographs of people with live bunnies to earn their bronze award. Photograph prices are $3 for a 4x6 or two for $5.

AREAWIDE — Police from agencies countywide are collaborating to keep St. Patrick’s Day safe. Grand Blanc Township police officials said there will be added patrols Saturday throughout Genesee County, specifically focusing on drunk driving. — P.H.

An item regarding a Grand Blanc Relay for Life team captain’s meeting in last week’s Community Briefs had an incorrect date. The correct date for the team captain’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 21 at Kirkridge Presbyterian Church.
St. Patty’s fun
GRAND BLANC — Holy Family Home and School Association is presenting a “Luck of the Irish” Super Draw Party and Raffle this at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Father Bush Parish Center, 110 Bush St., this Saturday.
A raffle drawing held from 9-11 p.m. Entertainment for the evening will include music by The Rock-n-Roll Engineers. Raffle tickets are $100 each, and include two admissions to the party. Sales are limited to 1,000 tickets, with first prize winning $25,000, and cash prizes to14 other winners.
