GB Idol comes home
GRAND BLANC
— Resident Beth Stalker, 28, did not make it to the next round on American Idol after singing Melissa Etheridge’s I’m the Only One during the hit show’s Feb. 13 episode.
She was cut from the show during the episode’s “Sing for Your Life” showdown, which whittled down the contestants to 24.
Stalker first advanced to the Hollywood round after singing Ella Fitzgerald’s Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, during the Jan. 15 season premiere. — N.B.

Daddy-daughter dance
GOODRICH
— Goodrich Area School’s annual Daddy-Daughter dance will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Oaktree Elementary cafeteria.
The theme is The King and I and participants will receive a photo keepsake, in addition to enjoying dancing and fun. If dads are not available, grandpas, uncles or brothers can attend.

Goodrich kindergarten registration in April
GOODRICH
— Goodrich Area Schools has kindergarten registration for the 2008-2009 school year on April 14-18.
All children who are 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2008 and live in the Goodrich district are eligible to attend Reid Elementary School. Registration is at Reid Elementary, 7501 Seneca St.
Parents are asked to call Reid Elementary at 810-591-3455 and submit their child’s name and address so the school can send a packet with information parents need before a child can be registered. Round-up nights will be May 6 and May 8. — K.S.

KGCB conference

— Keep Genesee County Beautiful (KGCB) announces the fourth annual Community Beautification Leadership Conference from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 1 at UM-Flint campus.
The conference features an information fair with more than 20 local organizations involved in clean-up, beautification and recycling projects.

Antiques appraisal fair at museum
GRAND BLANC
— The Grand Blanc Heritage Association hosts its Antiques Appraisal Fair from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. March 15 at the Heritage Museum, 203 E. Grand Blanc Road in the City Hall complex.
Antiques dealer and appraiser Robert Yaklin will give verbal appraisals on up to three items per person, excluding fine jewelry and antiquities appraisals.
Appraisal cost is $4 per item or $10 for three items. Tickets are available at the door, and the public also may take tours of the museum and enjoy light refreshments.

Dance benefits
Special Olympics

— Rock around the clock at the Feb. 29 Leap Day Dance, with proceeds from the fundraiser-dance benefiting Area 13 Special Olympics programs.
The dance is at the Elmer Knopf Learning Center, 1493 W. Maple Ave., from 7-10 p.m., and feature local legends, “The Fairlanes.” Pizza, popcorn, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase.

Atlas extends hours for tax collection

— Atlas Twp. will be open from 8 a.m.-noon next Friday for regular business, and will remain open from noon-5 p.m. for tax collection purposes only. Treasurer Ann Marie Slagle is extending her office’s hours that day.
