Fund established
for Holy Family
GRAND BLANC — To coincide with the celebration of National Catholic Schools Week (January 28-February 3), a permanently endowed fund was established by a local, anonymous family to benefit Holy Family Catholic School.
“Grants from the fund will help our school fulfill its mission challenging students to embrace the gospel message, achieve academic excellence and make a difference in the world,” said Father John Swait.
This parish school was founded in 1956 and currently serves about 540 pre-school through eighth-grade students from throughout Genesee County. Gifts made to Holy Family Catholic School Fund qualify for a special Michigan Community Foundation Tax Credit. — M.S.
City Market
featured
GRAND BLANC — The City of Grand Blanc’s open-air market (aka farmers’ market) has been featured in the February issue of The Vegetable Growers News, a monthly trade newspaper for vegetable growers and the vegetable industry.
The newspaper has covered timely issues affecting growers across the nation for over 35 years, according to the Vegetable Growers website. To read the article, go to www.vegetablegrowers-news.com.
The city began the farmer’s market last summer to support local farmers and provide citizens with fresh, locally-grown produce, including many organically-grown fruits and vegetables. The market will return in May and runs through the end of October, weather permitting.

Volunteer
fundraising
FLINT — The Salvation Army of Genesee County would like to thank the community for their generous support of the 2006 Red Kettle Campaign Drive.
“We were so blessed by the public’s outpour of support that our $600,000 campaign goal was exceeded by over $69,000,” said Captain John Williams, County Commander of the Salvation Army’s Genesee chapter.
A large portion of this year’s campaign success was related to the many organizations, service groups, schools and individuals who volunteered to help ring bells at over 65 kettle locations throughout Genesee County, Williams said.
