Shovel sidewalks
and steps for safety
MICHIGAN — The United States Postal Service asks that homeowners remember to keep the walks and steps leading up to their doors clear of snow and ice to provide safe pathways for mail carriers.
“Our carriers want to do the best possible job for their customers, but slips and falls during the winter really take a toll on their health and safety,” said Dan Orton, spokesperson for the Postal Service’s Southeast Michigan District.
For those with curb-mounted or roadside mailboxes, try to ensure the mounds of snow and ice that pile up around the mailboxes does not become excessive.
“This enables postal vehicles to safely approach and pull away from mailboxes, and also makes it safer for customers to retrieve their mail,” Orton said.
