Student honored
ALBION -- Grand Blanc High School graduate Kristin Doty has been accepted into the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Institute at Albion College beginning next fall.
Honors students are required to enroll in seminars in humanities, science, social science and fine arts and must graduate with a 3.5 grade point average and write an honors thesis.
Doty is the daughter of Scott and Debra Doty of Grand Blanc and is in her first year at Albion College. -- P.H.
Future leaders
FLINT -- Baker College of Flint is hosting the Business Professionals of America Regional Leadership Conference Jan. 5.
About 500 area members of high school BPA clubs will participate, competing for regional awards in categories including computer programming, desktop publishing, E-commerce, accounting, economic development, medical office procedures, global marketing and interview skills.

Pastie sale
GOODRICH -- Goodrich United Methodist Church is having a Pastie sale 1-4 p.m. Jan. 12 and 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 13. Proceeds from the sale benefit church programs and community functions.

Concert time
EAST LANSING -- Grand Blanc graduate Matt Scollin will play the role of the Captain in the opera Florencia En El Amazonas March 30-April 1 at Michigan State University in the auditorium.
The opera is sung in Spanish and will mark the first time the opera will be performed in the state.
“Florencia is going to be a great show and I think a lot of people are going to love it,” Scollin said.

Parks hearing
GRAND BLANC -- Grand Blanc Parks & Rec. is hosting a public hearing to get community input on its five-year Master Plan draft at 6 p.m. Jan. 18 at its administrative offices.
“The plan evaluates existing recreation opportunities, reviews public opinion regarding recreation and proposes a five-year schedule of improvements and other related items that the (Parks & Rec.) Commission wishes to pursue,” said Parks & Rec. Executive Director Kae Eidson.
Copies of the draft plan are available for review at the Parks & Rec. Commission office, McFarlen Library, the Grand Blanc schools administration building and the City of Grand Blanc and Grand Blanc Twp. administrative offices.

Meetings changed
GRAND BLANC -- Both Grand Blanc School Board meetings scheduled for January will be on Tuesdays instead of Mondays because of holidays.
The first meeting of the month will be Tuesday, Jan. 2. The second monthly meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 16. The board normally meets the first and third Mondays every month.
Meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are held in the Perry Center boardroom. -- P.H.
