Hagenow reappointed to commission
GRAND BLANC TWP. — Gov. Jennifer Granholm reappointed Norma R. Hagenow to the Certificate of Need Commission on Oct. 18.
The bipartisan commission reviews and determines the need for new health services, facilities or organizations offered or developed in Michigan.
Hagenow, a Republican, is chief learning officer at Genesys Regional Medical Center. She was appointed to represent hospitals until April 9, 2010, when her term ends.
Other reappointments include Edward B. Goldman of Ann Arbor, to represent hospitals, and Thomas M. Smith of Saginaw, to represent companies self-insured for health coverage. Both appointments are until 2010. — K.G.

GOODRICH — Goodrich United Methodist Church, 8071 S. State Rd., hosts a Gingerbread Gala, with a gingerbread house competition from noon-4 p.m. on Dec. 1.
People must register on or before Nov. 24, and the entry must be delivered on Dec. 1 between 8-11 a.m. to the church’s Family Life Center. The contest age divisions range from: ages 10-15, admission fee of $10; ages 16-adult, admission fee of $15; and a family division, for a $15 fee.
Awards are a $25 savings bond for the age 10-15 division, $50 cash for the age 16-adult group and an NCG movie package or $30 cash for the family level.

Donate instruments
GOODRICH — The Goodrich Music Boosters is looking for donations of used instruments to help beginning students.
People can donate and receive tax deduction forms from the music department. To obtain the forms, contact either Chris Hall at the middle school or Aaron Orkisz at the high school.
The middle school band is starting a new program called Smartmusic. The computer-based program gives students online instructions, allowing students to individualize assignments and practice time away from the classroom. Smartmusic gives direct feedback to the student, allowing recording, tuning, group rehearsal and more features promoting quicker learning. Program cost is $25 per student. Memorial service
at Genesys
GRAND BLANC TWP. — The Spiritual Care Department at Genesys Regional Medical Center will conduct a memorial service at 5 p.m. Nov. 8 for families and friends of patients who have passed away during the past year.

Sec. of State offices
closed for holidays
MICHIGAN — Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced that all branch offices and the Office of the Great Seal will be closed on Nov. 12 in honor of Veterans Day.
On Nov. 22 and 23, all Secretary of State offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. SUPER!Centers also will be closed on Nov. 24. Licenses and plates that expire on the day the offices are closed can be renewed the next day without penalty.

Still time to give
MICHIGAN — Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land reminds residents that non-perishable food can still be donated to any branch office during the Harvest Gathering food drive, now through Dec. 14.
Donations of peanut butter, canned meat, canned fruit, canned vegetables and soups, some non-perishable food are needed, and will benefit disadvantaged families in the community. Cash donations are accepted and are used to cover costs of collecting and distributing the food.

van schedule
GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Activity Center, 12632 Pagels Dr., changed its van schedule. The van will run 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
