Senior center
drops fee
GRAND BLANC
— The Grand Blanc Senior Activity Center, 12632 Pagels Dr., recently eliminated its annual fee membership of $10.
The fee covered mailing costs for the center’s newsletter, but now seniors can make a $10 donation instead to help with costs. Certain fees still apply to the center’s classes and activities.

Road closure update
GRAND BLANC
— The Genesee County Road Commis-sion, in conjunction with Grand Blanc Twp. and the Michigan Dept. of Transportation, will postpone the reconstruction of Hill Road from Center Road to Genesee Road until spring 2008.
The project was originally slated to start this fall, but because of seasonal limitations, construction has been delayed.
Expect storm sewer construction to begin in April and road work to start after school is out in June. The anticipated completion date for the project is by Aug. 30, 2008. — K.S.

Blood drives
GENESEE COUNTY
— The American Red Cross hosts several blood drives now through Dec. 10.
From 8 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Nov. 30, Genesee Christian High Jr./Sr. High School, 1223 S. Belsay Rd. in Burton, will hold a drive.
On Dec. 1, First Presbyterian Church, 503 S. Leroy St. in Fenton, will hold a drive from 9 a.m.-1:45 p.m.
From noon-5:45 p.m. Dec.3, 5 and 10, the Flint Donor Center, 1401 S. Grand Traverse St., will hold a drive. The center also will hold a drive from 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Dec. 7.
The Fenton VFW, 1148 Leroy St., will hold a drive noon-5:45 p.m. Dec. 10.

UM-Flint approves housing rate
FLINT
— The University of Michigan Board of Regents approved the rates for the first residence hall on the University of Michigan-Flint campus.
The hall rates for the 2008-2009 academic year are per occupant. For a four-bedroom, single-occupancy unit the cost is $5,300. The cost for a two-bedroom, double-occupancy room is $4,200. The rates do not include board and the university is working towards a meal option for students.
The 310-unit residence hall, located at the corner of Chavez and First streets in downtown Flint, is scheduled to open in August 2008. Visit www.umflint.edu for more information. — N.B.

Middle East ethics

— The University of Michigan-Flint Middle Eastern studies program kicks off its lecture series on Ethics in Public Life with Zarqa Nawaz, creator of CBC sitcom Little Mosque on the Prairie, at 2 p.m. Dec. 3 in the UM-Flint Theatre.
Nawaz will discuss her experiences as a creator of the sitcom, focusing on the creative process involved in presenting a unique show that is appealing and deals with intercultural issues in a fun and entertaining way.

Learn what’s going on with M-15

— Live on M-15? Brandon Township Library, 304 S. State St., hosts M-15 Corridor Improvement Task Force meeting at 10 a.m. on Dec. 3.
The meeting will cover a report on the M-15/East Hegel Traffic Signal, a review of the crash patterns on M-15, a status of the M-15 Draft Environmental Impact Statement and a progress report on the M-15 Traffic Studies and Operations Improvements. — K.G.

Parents’ night out

— Need to do Christmas Shopping? Have an Office party? Dinner and a movie? Oaktree Elementary, 7500 S. Gale Rd., hosts Parents Night Out from 5-9 p.m. on Dec. 7, in the cafeteria.
Sponsored by the GHS Bowling Teams, children can enjoy fun, food and games while parents have a night to shop or relax. Children will have pizza and juice, writeg and send letters to Santa, read Christmas stories and watch The Grinch.

— Grand Blanc Community Education presents its 2007 December Enrichment classes for kids and adults.
From 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 1, there is a junior chefs class for kids who want to learn how to cook simple meals and make a fun craft. Cost is $32, plus an $8 supply fee.
CPR training for youth and adults is 6-9 p.m. Dec. 3-5. Cost is $55 per person or $40 for high school students. From 7-9 p.m. Dec. 5, the program offers a class on designing a Woodland Garden for $30.
