LaCrosse booster meeting
GRAND BLANC — In preparation for the Grand Blanc Boys’ LaCrosse Club season this spring, the booster club will host a meeting at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 at McFarlen Library.
Booster club organizer Mary Millwood invites parents to come to the meeting to learn more about Grand Blanc LaCrosse and to begin planning the upcoming season.
Parents of high school boys who have played on the team before, or parents of boys who have not played but are interested in playing, are invited to attend.

Holiday Harvest Dinner and Dance
GRAND BLANC — Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation hosts a Holiday Harvest Dinner and Dance from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 16 for people with special needs and their families. Cost is $2 for adults and $1 for kids (ages 12 and under).
The Holiday Harvest Dinner and Dance is open to special needs individuals of all ages and includes dinner, refreshments, music and dancing. A photo opportunity will be available for $2.

Still time to give
MICHIGAN — Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land reminds residents that non-perishable food can still be donated to any branch office during the Harvest Gathering food drive, now through Dec. 14.
Donations of peanut butter, canned meat, canned fruit, canned vegetables and soups will benefit disadvantaged families in the community. Cash donations are accepted and are used to cover costs of collecting and distributing the food.
Last year, the Michigan Harvest Gathering raised more than $300,000 and 350,000 pounds of food. This year’s goal is $350,000 and 500,000 pounds of food. For more details, visit the Branch Office Locator at www.Michigan.gov/sos. — K.G.
Gay rights panel discussion
FLINT — The Parents, Family and Friends of Gays and Lesbians (PFLAG) and the Mott Community College Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA) will present a panel discussion on gay rights at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at MCC.
The “Gay Rights? Why?” discussion focuses on where the law stands today, discrimination in housing and employment, marriage and civil unions, The Religious Perspective, domestic violence and bullying in schools and society.

Ojibwe art forms and culture
FLINT — The Flint Institute of Arts, 1120 E. Kearsley St., hosts Native American author and artist Lois Beardslee on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
Beardslee speaks on modern issues that affect Woodland Indian artists in northern Michigan. Focusing on cultural appropriation, institutional shortcomings, modern patronage and cultural shifts in the Native American community, Beardslee presents an opportunity to learn more about Indian literature and art.

GRAND BLANC — The Genesys Conference and Banquet Center, 805 Health Park Blvd., is hosting the first Giving Feast on Thanksgiving Day from noon-4 p.m.
Guests can enjoy a free Thanksgiving dinner, provided by the Blue Collar Gourmet Restaurant Group. Blue Collar will also provide staff for setup and cleanup.
Blue Collar is looking for individuals and businesses to help or donate to the feast.

GRAND BLANC TWP. — The Southeast Genesee Association of Retired School Personnel will hold its annual Christmas Breakfast Meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 4 at the Woodfield Golf Club off Baldwin Rd.
A gift presentation to the Meals on Wheels program will be given and guests are asked to bring a small wrapped gift marked “male” or “female” that will be delivered with the Christmas trays to the recipients of Meals on Wheels.

FLINT — Baker College of Flint hosts Tom Clay of the Citizen’s Research Council at 9 a.m. on Dec. 14 in the college’s auditorium.
Clay’s discussion focuses on “Michigan’s Budget Crisis: A Long-term Analysis of the Future for Michigan’s Economy and State Finances.” Clay joined the CRC in 1997 after working 31years with the State of Michigan.
