Eagle Scout shed serves as a reminder
GRAND BLANC — When Boy Scout Eric Beaudry, 16, decided to complete a community project to earn his rank as Eagle Scout, he decided the best place to start was at home. Not at his current home, but the location where his old home used to stand.
Earlier this year, Beaudry enlisted the help of his fellow scouts from Troop 238 and the Touch the Earth Garden Club to build a tool shed at Rust Park. Years ago, when the city had to tear down some of the homes in the area to make room for park expansion, a house Beaudry once lived in was also slated for destruction. Beaudry said it seemed fitting he’d complete his Eagle Scout project near the location of his former home.
The project took about two weeks to complete, and Beaudry applied for a grant from the city to purchase materials to build the 10-foot-by-10-foot storage shed. “It taught me many skills to be successful in life, like determination,” Beaudry said.
Beaudry is a junior at Grand Blanc High School who plays varsity football and is a member of the National Honor Society. — K.S.
