Band exhibition
GROODRICH — The Goodrich High School annual marching band exhibition is 6-8 p.m. Oct. 8 at the high school football field. Marching bands from Goodrich, Holly, Swartz Creek, Corunna, North Branch, Fenton and Holt will take part in the exhibition, presenting their 2007 halftime shows.

GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Optimist Club is seeking new members who want to serve the Grand Blanc community by supporting area youth.

Social Security
office relocates
FLINT — The Social Security Administration office is relocating to 1149 Robert T. Longway Blvd.
The new office, which opens Oct. 9, is 15,000 square feet, with more comfortable seating. Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
In preparation for the grand opening of the new office, the current office in downtown Flint will be closed on Oct. 5. Field office branches will be open to assist people.

BURTON — The Flint Genealogical Society meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Burton Senior Activity Center, 3410 S. Grand Traverse.
Kris Rzepczynski, Library of Michigan Genealogy coordinator, is the featured guest speaker and will discuss Coming to America: Research with Ship Passenger Lists. The session explores the available U.S. passenger lists and indexes, what information can be found in the lists and research strategies.

Grand Blanc schools host memorial run
GRAND BLANC — A “Steps and Strides for Schools” race is Oct. 20 at Reid Elementary, 2103 Reid Rd. The 5K run begins at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K walk at 9:05 a.m. and the one-mile family run/ walk at 10 a.m.
The race is a 10-year anniversary memorial for Benjamin Tyler Baldes, son of Diana Baldes, who organized the race. Pre-registration fee is $20, and registration the day of the event is $25. Cost is $5 per participant for the one-mile run/walk.
