GRAND BLANC — Two Grand Blanc Community Schools food service employees recently earned certification by the Culinary Masterworks program of the Culinary Institute of America.
Dining service managers Cathy Hart, Grand Blanc High School East campus, and Cher Wade, Grand Blanc High School West campus, both attended a week-long training course in Grand Rapids. The course was a specialized program that included classroom work, tests, homework and daily lab work in the kitchen.
All participants were nominated and accepted into the program. The program was sponsored by Chartwells School Dining Service. — N.B.

van schedule
GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Senior Activity Center, 12632 Pagels Dr., changed its van schedule. The van will run 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Optimist Club is seeking new members who want to serve the Grand Blanc community by supporting area youth.

Grand Blanc schools host memorial run
GRAND BLANC — A “Steps and Strides for Schools” race is Oct. 20 at Reid Elementary, 2103 Reid Rd. The 5K run begins at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K walk at 9:05 a.m. and the one-mile family run/walk at 10 a.m.
The race is a 10-year anniversary memorial for Benjamin Tyler Baldes, son of Diana Baldes, who organized the race. Pre-registration fee is $20, and registration the day of the event is $25. Cost is $5 per participant for the one-mile walk/run.

GRAND BLANC — A watercolor class and life stories class are just two of the many activities offered by the Grand Blanc Senior Activity Center, 12632 Pagels Dr.
Instructor Joe Green teaches a watercolor class 9:30-11:30 a.m. every Tuesday. Cost is $30 for four weeks, and new classes begin Oct. 23.

FLINT — The American Red Cross offers CPR and first aid courses throughout the month at its Flint office, 1401 S. Grand Traverse.
From 5-10 p.m. Oct. 15, 16, 18, 22, 23 and 30, adult CPR/AED, child, infant CPR and first aid courses will be offered. From 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Oct. 20, adult CPR/AED, child, infant CPR and first aid courses also will be offered.
Costs range from $35 for just adult CPR/AED to $60 for all course components. Course fees include all materials. Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training included with adult CPR. Pre-registration is required. Call 810-766-6405. — N.B.
