GRAND BLANC — On June 5, first grade students at Brendel Elementary had an unusual meal.

The brunch was the culmination of the insect science unit. It included bug-inspired food, costumes and several parents and fellow classmates.
In addition to the look-alike bug cuisine, the students also displayed their homemade insects, most of which were made of Styrofoam balls, pipe cleaners, felt, spray paint, glue, and other materials. They also each made a display board about their chosen bug, and guests then were encouraged to examine each board and leave written comments. — A.S.
