Annuity champ named

Former ambassador to speak

GRAND BLANC — The Community Foundation of Greater Flint’s Annual Luncheon will be May 17 at the Holiday Gateway Inn Centre, located off Hill Road.

The keynote speakers will be former U.S. Ambassador to South Africa and current Duke University Professor James Joseph.

In addition, local community leader AppaRao Mukkamala, M.D., will be given the 2007 Dr.

Lifehouse purchases assisted-living community

GRAND BLANC — LifeHOUSE Retirement properties has announced the acquisition of Nottingham Place, 4137 Cook Rd.

The community will be renamed Prestige Pointe and will be part of the Prestige Collection of assisted living, but will remain under the leadership of newly appointed Executive Director Patti Malejewski.

Business receives safety, health award

GOODRICH — Acument Global Technologies Inc. received the Bronze Award from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) May 1 for an outstanding safety and health record.

The MIOSHA Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division recognizes the safety and health achievements of Michigan employers and employees through CET awards. Child safety program

GRAND BLANC — Al Serra Hummer will be sponsoring a free DNA LifePrint Child Safety Program on May 12 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The program, endorsed by John Walsh, is aimed to promote child safety awareness and help families protect their children against violence. Parents will receive a Child Safety Journal, a color photograph, a video-CD with both audio and visual footage of your child, and a home DNA identification kit that they may provide to law enforcement officials should the need ever arise. The sponsor will keep no record of the information taken.

Recycle hazardous materials GRAND BLANC — The Genesee County Health Dept.

hosts a household hazardous waste collection day. Acceptable materials include household pesticides, herbicides, solvents, paint thinners, aerosol cans, oilbased paint, motor oil, mercury, batteries, corrosives and old prescriptions.

Up to 12 tires will be accepted but must be off the rim.

Unacceptable materials include explosive and radioactive materials, medical waste, commercial and industrial wastes and latex paint. Collection takes place at Grand Blanc West Middle School, One Jewett Trail, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 19. For more information, call the Genesee County Health Department at 810-
