GRAND BLANC TWP.
Township explores water fee payment structure
GRAND BLANC TWP. — Representatives from Rowe Engineering presented proposed changes in the township’s fee structure for sewer services during a workshop meeting June 27.
The changes come from fee changes passed along from the Genesee County Drain Commission Waste Water Services.
According to Rowe consultant Dan Potter and Rowe engineer Jack Wheatley, the county will significantly reduce the flat rate for sewer services, but will begin charging more per cubic foot for sewer water usage. Although a good portion of residents should benefit from this change, some will experience an increase in their sewer bills, especially non-metered residents with wells who utilize county sewer services.
The board plans to invite members from the Genesee County Drain Commission to attend the next board meeting on July 12 to explain the rationale behind the change in sewer rates. At that time, the board will discuss how the township will assimilate the new rate changes into their fee schedule, which they plan to do gradually.
In other business:
• Trillium Circle is slated to complete landscaping at the North Holly Road location by the end of this year. According to Clerk Linda Kingston, developer Dan Park has been waiting for the completion of a Buffalo Wild Wings on the property before attempting any landscaping of the area.
• The township has begun to codify its ordinances, which has not been done in 19 years. Kingston said she has hired an internal employee to digitally scan and organize records to ensure their safekeeping in the case of a fire.
• The township will continue honing its repeat offender ordinance, which will help curb corporations/developers/citizens from causing unnecessary legal hassles for the township. The board plans to seek advice from surrounding municipalities that already have such an ordinance in place.
• The board will hold a public hearing at a July 19 meeting to listen to citizen comments and concerns about developing pathway systems throughout the township. — K.S.
