Council approves budgets, mill tax rate
GRAND BLANC — City council approved a 2007-08 budget of $7,799,000 and 2008-09 budget of $8,239,180 at last Wednesday’s meeting. During the meeting, the city also set the 2007 tax millage rate at 12.15 mills. The breakdown of the millage is 9.95 mills for general fund, 1.0 for streets, 1.0 for water debt and .2 for water operations.
“I want to thank the finance committee and staff for being very expeditious in putting together this budget,” said Mayor Michael Matheny.
In related financial news, the city is still seeking to fill the finance director position vacated by the retirement of Richard Saathoff. Applications for the position were taken through the end of April.
In other news:
• Council approved the transfer of a liquor license to Luca’s Chop House.
• The mayor exchange date with the city of Marysville has been set for Tuesday, June 5. Members of the council, including Mayor Matheny, will travel to Marysville for the event. — N.B.
