Township approves sound meter purchase
ATLAS TWP. — The board unanimously voted to approve the purchase of two sound meters for enforcing Atlas Twp.’s new noise ordinance.
Supervisor Paul Amman was authorized to spend up to $800 for two sound meters that can be mounted on tripods and used in the field.
“We’re getting to that time of year when we’ll be needing these,” he said. “These meters need to be able to deal with wind and ambient noises.” The police department will have one meter and the enforcement officer will carry the other.
“We will respond as required and when called,” said Amman. “The main thing is for people to be courteous and polite to their neighbors and to also not ride dirt bikes along the property line.”
In other business:
• The board approved the renaming of the southernmost half-mile of Horton Road to S. Horton Road in response to residents and emergency responders’ complaints over the confusing addresses. The resolution now goes before the Genesee County Road Commission for adoption.
• Township attorney David Lattie will have ballot language for the upcoming referendum on non-conforming lots available at the board’s May 21 meeting. The issue will go before voters on Aug. 7. — N.B.
