City Council lowers tap-in rates

GRAND BLANC — In an effort to help bring new buildings into the city’s downtown area, the Grand Blanc City Council is lowering tap-in rates for new buildings.

At the June 25 meeting, City Manager Randall Byrne brought up the idea of lowering tap-in rates as part of the council’s efforts to help attract businesses interested in constructing new buildings downtown. After brief discussion, the council approved the idea unanimously.

Tap-in rates will see a reduction from $1,500 to $500. Sewer tap-in rates also will see the same reduction. The discounted rates go into effect July 1 and will last for one year. Anyone at the tap-in application stage of the building process at any time during the twelve-month period will receive the discounted rates.

“We’re cutting our tap-in fees by two-thirds,” said Councilmember Steve Robinson of the decision. “At a time when tap-in fees are sky-high in surrounding areas, this shows we’re serious about bringing folks in.”
