FLINT — William Packer, president of Superior Pontiac-Cadillac, recently announced his plans to sell his Genesee County-based automobile dealership effective June 30.
The pending sale is to Serra Automotive, the nation’s sixteenth largest privately held automotive group, which also is headquartered in Genesee County.
“Announcing the sale now enables us to keep our employees and customers informed during the process and it gives us an opportunity to thank the community for nearly 60 years of support,” said Packer.
Once the sale is finalized, Cadillac and Pontiac brands will be available at Serra Automotive’s flagship location on South Saginaw St. in Grand Blanc.
“With the addition of Cadillac and Pontiac, the Al Serra Auto Plaza will offer practically every vehicle in the GM family,” Serra Automotive president Joe Serra said.
After the sale, Cadillac will move into the Hummer showroom, which will become Al Serra Cadillac-Hummer. Pontiac will move to the current Buick-GMC facility, which they will rename Al Serra Buick-Pontiac-GMC.
Superior Pontiac-Cadillac General Manager Gordy Taylor also will make the move to Al Serra Auto Plaza. Taylor has more than 25 years of automotive dealership management experience and a host of community involvement.
“Someone of Gordy’s knowledge and reputation would surely have several options open to him,” Serra said. “We feel extremely fortunate and honored that he’s coming on board with us.”
Both parties express excitement over the pending sale. Packer spoke highly of the Serra Automotive community ties and interest in the economic growth of the area.
“I’m convinced they are the right people to continue the Superior commitment to our customers and our brands,” said Packer.
Al Serra Auto Plaza includes Al Serra Chevrolet, Al Serra Buick-GMC, Al Serra Hummer, Honda of Grand Blanc and Nissan of Grand Blanc.
The network currently has 22 dealerships across the country and employs more than 1,500 people.
