Granny embezzled
GRAND BLANC — City of Grand Blanc police questioned and then arrested a Burton woman, 71, after the woman admitted to embezzling from the Kroger store on Saginaw Street in the Grand Mall.
Store investigators called police March 25 after noticing several items coming up short during store audits. Kroger employees called police, who questioned the woman. She admitted to the thefts and was taken into custody.
Police released the woman pending warrants from the county prosecutor’s office.
Thief wants to hit the slopes
GRAND BLANC — A Grand Bend Apartments resident, 34, called police March 24 after discovering that someone broke into his storage locker and stole several sports items.
Missing items include snow boards, ski boots and other winter activity sportswear. The man estimates the total loss of items at just under $5,000. Police have no suspects. — J.N.
Cool computer thief
GRAND BLANC — A Perry Place resident, 40, called police March 25 to report that someone stole a computer modem and an air conditioner from the man’s apartment sometime between March 17-25.
The man, who was out of town at the time of the break-in, estimates total losses at more than $400.
Target practice
GRAND BLANC — A woman, 55, called police march 25 after noticing damage to the siding of her home. The holes in a Grant Street resident’s vinyl siding appear to be from a bb gun.
Damage is estimated at $100. Police are still investigating.
Threats by phone
GRAND BLANC — A Grand Blanc Road business owner called police March 28 to report that someone had threatened him over the phone.
The businessman, whose store is part of a franchise facing legal trouble in Oakland County, said the caller warned him to “be careful” when leaving work that night. Police arrived at the scene to make sure the man left work safely. Police have no suspects.
Beware of suspicious callers from banks
GRAND BLANC — A Schram Street woman, 77, believed her bank was just performing a kind service when a man called asking her to verify her bank account numbers and supply personal information on March 27.
The caller said he was from Fifth Third Bank, where the woman had an account, and was calling because he noticed suspicious activity on the woman’s account. After hanging up with the caller, the woman became suspicious and called her bank. Bank employees told the woman they would never call and ask for that information because they already have the information.
The woman told police the suspect sounded professional and she could hear computers in the background. Police are still monitoring the woman’s account for suspicious activity.
Someone stole his homework
GRAND BLANC — A Flint man, 49, called police to report that someone stole his homework and other personal papers at the Kroger store in the Grand Mall on March 30.
The man said he left a vinyl binder containing a credit card statement, a floppy disc, his homework and other personal papers at the store. When he returned to claim his missing property, it was gone.
The man estimates about $500 in losses because of the missing binder.
Gas guzzler
GRAND BLANC — The driver of a maroon 2006 Chevy Malibu pumped $41 worth of gas from the Saginaw Street BP station and then left without paying on March 30.
Police have the suspect’s license plate number and are following up on the theft.
